The Roskilde Peace 1658

a new border but the same people

This was not just a local event in Malmö, not even local in the sense of Scania, not only did it affect Sweden as a country but also Denmark as a country.

1658 was a very important year throughout northern Europe. 350 years had passed since the peace at Roskilde, February 26 1658. It was the most expensive peace ever in the history of Denmark and the most important in Sweden history.

The Danish-Norwegian Kingdom had to give up not only the county of Scania but also Blekinge, Halland (for eternal time), Bohuslän, Bornholm and Trondheim. Before 1658, at the peace at Brömsebro 1645 they lost Jämtland, Härjedalen, Gotland and Ösel to Sweden. Halland was left to Sweden for a period of 30 years.

We will try to make this historical event an national event! – also in Denmark.

We want to focus on the impact of this event on man and woman, rich and poor.
