Search for your family roots

Have you ever had the idea to start searching for your family roots and find out more about your grandfather’s mother? Where did she come from? Where did she live? What was her life like? Had she any brothers and sisters? What was life like in a small village 150 years ago? How did a parish operate? Visit the Europaporten in Malmö on August 30-31, 2008 and get help from experienced genealogists to find answers to these and a lot of other questions. Through digitalized church records, different databases and cd-rom’s they will help you find information on your relatives.

Lectures

In order to learn more - come and listen to lectures on a variety of interesting subjects. Different lectures on genealogy will be held and participating businesses and institutions will present their activities, Several lectures on history relevant for this year’s theme – the treaty of Roskilde – will also be held.

Trade fair

A lot of different societies, businesses and institutions will present their work and products at the trade fair. Here you will be able to find many local societies, as well as those from other parts of Sweden and from its neighboring countries. Take this opportunity to meet and talk to someone from your ancestral home area. At the trade fair you will also find useful books, computer programs and cd-rom’s on genealogy for sale.

Main theme

The main theme for The annual Swedish genealogy event 2008 will be the 350 year old
treaty of Roskilde from 1658. The treaty had an enormous impact on the Nordic countries. The provinces of Scania, Halland, Blekinge and Bohuslän became Swedish. Thus making Sweden much bigger and reducing Denmark to half its previous size. How the treaty effected men and women, rich and poor, will be illustrated in different ways:
